How I Built an AI Assistant That Runs My Business

I run multiple companies. I don't have a traditional EA. Instead, I have an AI assistant that handles my email, schedules meetings, deploys code, monitors analytics, and even drafts outreach — 24/7. Here's how I built it.

The Problem: Founder Overload

When you're running a startup studio like Jars Global, context-switching is the real killer. I was spending 3+ hours a day on email, scheduling, and repetitive ops tasks. That's time I should be spending on product and growth.

I tried virtual assistants. I tried Zapier automations. Nothing stuck — they were either too slow, too dumb, or too rigid. I needed something that could actually think.

Enter OpenClaw

I built OpenClaw — an AI assistant framework that sits on top of Claude Code and connects to everything: Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub, Slack, Telegram, and more. It runs on my own server, so my data never leaves my infrastructure.

Unlike ChatGPT or other chat-based tools, OpenClaw is an agent. It doesn't wait for you to prompt it — it proactively checks your inbox, flags urgent items, and handles routine tasks autonomously.

What It Actually Does (Daily)

  • • Triages my email inbox — responds to routine messages, flags important ones
  • • Manages my calendar — schedules meetings, sends reminders, resolves conflicts
  • • Monitors GitHub repos across all my companies
  • • Writes and deploys code changes via Claude Code
  • • Drafts cold outreach and follow-ups
  • • Summarizes Slack channels and Discord communities

The Tech Stack

The setup is surprisingly simple. OpenClaw runs on a Mac Mini (or any VPS). It uses Claude as the reasoning engine and connects to your tools via APIs. The AI Operators community has helped dozens of founders set this up.
